NOTE
Eta Theta Honor Society Information: The University of Phoenix is awaiting final approval of our
Eta Theta chapter from the Internal Revenue Service, through Alpha Phi Sigma. Eligible students have
been identified; we will be sending out invitations to apply for membership upon receipt of approval.
University of Phoenix Criminal Justice graduates in attendance in 2005, 2006, and/or 2007 who meet
eligibility requirements will be invited to apply for membership
Eta Theta, in conjunction with the University of Phoenix, looks at each criminal justice/security student as of December 31st of each year. This is done automatically. In other words, students do not need to express interest to be included in our eligibility review each December.
The Campus Assistant Advisor (Campus College Chair) then reviews the list of eligible students, and determines who will receive an invitation. The invitation to join Eta Theta is sent in the spring of each year.
NOTE: It is up to each invited student to respond and indicate his/her interest to be accepted into the chapter.
Please note that students who are currently on Academic Probation or who have had a documented University of Phoenix Code of Conduct violation are not eligible for membership in Eta Theta.
You can become a member of Eta Theta if you are a student enrolled in a criminal justice degree program at the University of Phoenix and meet the following requirements:

- Upper 35% of class for cumulative GPA
- Have a 3.6 GPA in the CJA core coursework

The Alpha Phi Sigma Web site states that students need to have a 3.2 GPA; however, Eta Theta requirements are higher.
This difference in GPA requirements can be confusing to many students. To become a member of Eta Theta, students must have completed one-third of their total hours required for graduation at their institution. Students must be recommended to the National Honor Society by the Eta Theta chapter advisor.
The Eta Theta Chapter at University of Phoenix has adopted the following eligibility requirements:
- Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum of a 3.6 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale in criminal justice courses. Students must also rank in the top 35% of their classes and have completed a minimum of seven courses within the criminal justice curriculum. The Honor Society is open to those with a declared criminal justice major.
- Graduate students are required to maintain a minimum of a 3.6 GPA in Criminal Justice courses on a 4.0 scale. Students must rank in the top 35% of their classes and have completed a minimum of four courses within the criminal justice curriculum.
This means that Eta Theta members must have at least a 3.6 GPA and be in the upper 35% of their class.
Members of Alpha Phi Sigma who are transferring membership from a previous college may transfer their membership to the chapter at their “new” college without paying fees to national headquarters.
The transfer student must present his/her Alpha Phi Sigma Certificate from the previous college to the Campus Representative (CCC). This confirms the student’s membership in the National Alpha Phi Sigma.
The chapter advisor at the “new” college will complete the Notification of Chapter Membership Transfer form and send it to national headquarters (no dues required).
- The “new” college chapter may charge chapter dues/requirements.
- If the transfer student member wishes a new certificate with the “new” college chapter’s name, there is a $10 fee for the certificate.
- If a membership pin is also requested, a fee of $15 will be required. Only the advisor of the “new” college chapter may order the certificate and pin from national headquarters.
All transfer students must complete at least three University of Phoenix courses at the “new” college/university so they will have the required GPA posted at the “new” college/university.
Because colleges vary on their transfer policies concerning transfer of grades and hours, Alpha Phi Sigma accepts the official rank and percentile designation on file at your college, which is provided by your college’s registrar.
